How to export your Nara Baby data before it goes read-only

The short answer: on Nara's Activity screen, tap your baby's picture next to their name, then Export Data, and save the CSV file somewhere safe. It takes about a minute, and you do not need to pay Nara to do it: the export keeps working after the free trial ends.

What changed at Nara

Nara Baby used to be free. In mid September 2026, Nara told existing users that charging would begin on 8 October, according to reviews posted on Google Play on 16 and 17 September.

  • The trial. A 7-day free trial with full access starts at the first entry you log, with no payment details needed.
  • The price. $9.99 a month or $99.99 once, for life, in the US. Nara's App Store listing also shows lower offers, from $6.99 a month and from $49.99 for life.
  • After the trial. Without a subscription the app is read-only for everyone in the family: you can view and export, but you cannot log anything new until someone pays.

The trial, prices and read-only rule are from Nara's own FAQ, read on 12 October 2026. They can change, so check there before you decide.

Export your Nara data, step by step

  1. Open Nara Baby on the Activity screenThat is the main screen, with your baby's name at the top.
  2. Tap your baby's picture next to their nameThe small round avatar.
  3. Tap Export DataNara makes a CSV file of everything logged for that child.
  4. Save the fileChoose Save to Files, or send it to yourself by email. Both keep the file whole.
  5. Repeat for each childNara makes one file per child.

Keep the original as it is. Do not open the file in Excel or Numbers and save it again. Spreadsheet apps quietly rewrite dates and times when they save, and an importer may then read your feeds at the wrong hour. If you want to look inside, open a copy.

The Export button does nothing? Update Nara from the App Store. Version 2.8.2, released on 25 September 2026, fixed an issue that stopped new users from exporting. Nara's support address is help@narababy.com.

What is in the file

The export is a plain CSV file with one row per entry: the time it happened and what was logged. From the real exports Babya has been tested against, it holds:

  • Bottles with amounts and brand, breastfeeds with left and right, and bottles that mix breast milk and formula
  • Nappies, with colour and texture
  • Sleep and pumping
  • Weight, length and temperatures
  • Vitamins, baths, nail trims and other routines, and firsts
  • The name of the caregiver who logged each entry

Some things stay behind. Vivi Baby reports that the export leaves out night-hour settings, reminders, hidden activities and photos. If photos matter to you, save them from the app separately while you still have it.

What you can do with it

  • Stay with Nara and pay. Nothing changes, and the file is a backup.
  • Keep it as an archive. Any spreadsheet app opens a copy, and you own it whatever you decide.
  • Move to another tracker. Several import a Nara export directly. Our honest comparison of Nara alternatives lists prices, privacy labels and which ones import, Babya included.

Moving to Babya

Babya is free forever, has no account, and keeps everything on your phone. On its first screen, tap Bring your history from Nara and pick the file. Already set up? It is under You, then Import. Babya shows what it found before it writes anything, and importing the same file twice never duplicates an entry. The switching guide has the detail.

Babya is in public beta on TestFlight today, with the App Store release waiting for Apple's review. It runs on iPhone only for now.

Questions

Do I have to pay Nara to export my data?

No. Nara's FAQ says that without a subscription the app becomes read-only, and you can still view and export your existing data. You only lose the ability to log new entries.

When does Nara go read-only for me?

Seven days after your first logged entry from 8 October 2026, unless someone in your family subscribes. If the trial has already ended, you can still export.

Does exporting change or delete anything in Nara?

No. Exporting only makes a copy. To have your data removed from Nara, you would ask Nara to delete your account.

Can my partner export instead of me?

Nara's FAQ says everyone in a read-only family can still view and export, so either of you can.

Which apps can import a Nara export?

Babya, Gaia, Robin and Vivi Baby each describe a built-in Nara importer. Pebbi imports Nara data on request through its support team. The comparison has the detail.
